Make Money Fast

In a quiet Tibetan town three hours drive from Xining, one local describes seeing a missionary throw coins into the air. “This comes from Jesus,” he declared to the astonished crowd. The same Tibetan remembers with an incredulous laugh being told that Christianity brings cash. “All Buddhist countries are poor,” the missionary said. “If you believe in Jesus, you will be rich.”

What is going on here? Obviously the article seeks to point out the flawed and negative tactics…but throwing coins in the air? Seriously. Also, there is a disturbing tone in the whole article comparing the work of the missionaries in Tibet to those seeking to market and create a business – talking about “targeting” individuals ripe for conversion….I am sure that there are many serious missionaries risking their lives in Tibet and China, that don’t ‘throw coins’ at poor villagers claiming that following Jesus makes you rich. It is one thing to offer material support in a charitable fashion and another thing to throw coins to the poor, like bones to a dog, claiming that they come from the Lord. That is spreading a truly corrupted and inverted version of Yeshua’s message.
Amen!
